23-Year-Old Farmer Jailed For Stealing Sardine

Kofi Amponsah, a 23 year-old farmer at Dwendwenase near Banso in the Asante Akim South District has been jailed for 18 months for breaking into a shop and stealing nine tins of sardines. He also stole a cash of GH�230.Amponsah who appeared before the Juaso Circuit Court presided over by Mr Alex Obeng Asante pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing. Police Inspector Manasseh Obimpeh, prosecuting said the complainant, Adwoa Nyamewaa owned a provision shop at Dwendwenase where Amponsah live. He said at about 0430 hours on June 1 Amponsah broke into the shop and made away with the sardines and the cash. Hours later, the complainant went to the shop and detected the theft, thereby reporting the incident to members of the Unit Committee. Upon a tip-off, the members traced Amponsah to Payase, a nearby community and managed to retrieve five of the sardines and GH� 80 from him. They then handed him over to the Banso Police who charged him with the offences and was arraigned.
