Market Fires: Court Refuses To Hear Arsonists Case

The Adjabeng District Magistrate Court in Accra has refused to hear a case involving three suspected arsonists brought before it. The Government on Thursday, June 20, 2013 confirmed the arrest of some persons suspected to be behind some of the fires that ravaged some major market centers in the country. Briefing journalists at the Flagstaff House on Thursday, Deputy Information and Media Relations Minister, Mr. Murtala Mohammned said, investigations indicated that while some of the fires were accidental others were deliberately caused by some arsonists as suspected by President John Mahama and other key members of the government. Two of the three suspects who were in court on Tuesday, were sent back to the Regional Police CID Headquarters in Accra This is because the court stated that it lacks jurisdiction in the matter because it relates to second degree felony.
