Man Beheads Four-Year-Old Son

A 45-year-old farmer of Agona Obosomase in the Agona East District in the Central Region, has allegedly beheaded his four- year-old biological son after slashing the stomach of his wife. The suspect, Kweku Appiah, is said to have attempted to kill his wife, Yaa Nkrumah, 38, due to a misunderstanding that ensued between them. When his attempt failed, Appiah grabbed his son, who was around during the exchanges, and beheaded him. Sensing danger, the suspect fled into the bush after the gruesome act. The Swedru District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Anthony Nana Ekow Yawson, confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic and explained that on June 23, 2013, Yaa Nkrumah went to the Mankrong Junction Police Station in the morning with machete wounds on her stomach and reported that she had been injured by her husband during a misunderstanding. He said when Yaa�s husband failed in his attempt to kill her, he beheaded his four-year-old son with the machete he used to slash his wife�s stomach. According to him, the suspect fled into the bush and his wife was quickly rushed to the Swedru Government Hospital, where she was treated and discharged. He added that on June 25, 2013, around 6:30 a.m., the assembly member for the area and some residents mounted a search for the suspect, leading to his arrest. He sustained a wound at the back of his head and was sent to the Swedru Hospital for treatment. The suspect is currently in police custody while the body of the boy has been deposited at the Swedru Hospital morgue awaiting the outcome of an autopsy.
