Few days after narrowly escaping the wrath of the judges of the Supreme Court, the Deputy National Communication Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku made a dash to the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, the stronghold of the party, to a rousing welcome by party enthusiasts. Mr. Awuku, who last week, was granted clemency by the Supreme Court after being found guilty of contempt of the court, surprised supporters of the party in the region when he was heard yesterday morning on a number of radio stations contributing to political discussions. The "New Kid on the Block" as many listeners who called into the various radio stations, including Kessben FM, Ashh FM and Fox FM described him, made an emergency landing in the Garden city, ostensibly to encourage party supporters and interact with communicators of the party on recent developments concerning the Supreme Court Petition hearing. Sammy Awuku told The Chronicle newspaper in an exclusive interview that his visit to Kumasi has been necessitated by recent fallouts from the hearing, citing his appearance before the court and last Tuesday�s sentence of the Editor of The Daily Searchlight newspaper, Mr. Ken Kuranchie. He stated that his visit was to first brief communicators of the party on how to approach discussions on the hearing in order not to fall prey to the law and to also encourage them and numerous supporters about the prospect of the party as far as the case was concerned. The Deputy Communication Director noted that the NPP has an unwavering belief in the court to deliver justice and urged party supporters to exercise patience since victory was in sight. "My appeal to the supporters is to exercise patience and restraint and of course, continue to pray for the judges and the lawyers because the battle is not only being fought physically but spiritually," he noted. Mr. Awuku was the first to set the ball rolling in what has become known as the ��Supreme Court Contempt Episode�� when he was set free by the judges, after being cited for contempt. The Deputy Communication Director of the NPP, who must be thanking his stars for not suffering the fate of two of his colleagues, Mr. Ken Kuranchie and the NDC�s Stephen Atubiga, suffered on Tuesday has, however, been banned from attending the hearing at the Court. He told the Chronicle newspaper that everything was on course and that what Ghana needs now "is prayers for the judges and the lawyers to finish the cross line so that Ghana will see victory and development to move forward".
