At National Peace Summit Lawyer Okudzeto Lied

Barely twenty four hours after a National Peace Summit on the possible outcome of the 2012 election petition, General Secretary of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has described as spreading of falsehood by Mr. Sam Okudzeto in his quest to educate the public on the proceedings in court so far. The former President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Mr. Sam Okudzeto, speaking at the summit yesterday on the hearing of the election petition and the verdict of the Supreme Court, indicated that the court will give the final verdict on August 15, 2013, but was quick to note that there will be no review as the court is the highest in the land. But speaking on Radio Golds current affairs programme, Alhaji and Alhaji with Alhassan Suhuyini Saturday, Mr. Mornah made reference to a Supreme Court ruling in which he won a writ he filed seeking to nullify portions of the Constitutional Instrument 74. Rule 71B of C.I. 74 provides that the decision of the Supreme Court in respect of a petition presented to challenge the election of a President cannot be reviewed. According to Mr. Mornah, the former GBA President did the country a disservice by misinforming the public on issues pertaining to review of the verdict of the petition. He did not even define that there was opportunity for reviewand I thought that it was a waste of time because we brought him there to enlighten uswe brought him there to ensure that he was able to inform Ghanaians appropriately within the remit of the law.unfortunately he did not leave up to expectation to have conclude at such a highly crescendo of bias. Mr. Mornah said. The PNC General Secretary also chastised Mr. Okudzeto for referring to the election declaration sheets as pink sheets, a term which has been used by the petitioners in court. He said it is unfortunate that the legal practitioner also stated emphatically that the pink sheets must be signed by presiding officers at the polling station, adding that it is only the Supreme Court that can rule on whether or not results should be nullified because presiding officers did not sign. Mr. Bernard Mornah also picked on Mr. Okudzeto for ending his submission on the note that when the final verdict of the court is read, those in government should hand over power peacefully and refrain from violence. The PNC General Secretary said his submission was bias as there are two sides to the verdict of the court.
