Deputy General Secretary of the Convention People�s Party (CPP), Mr. Kwame Jantuah, has condemned what he termed as �unnecessary vilification� of Pastor Mensa Otabil over the latter�s warning that: ��There is something heavy, ready to fall upon� Ghana.
��I think we have been unfair to him in terms of the way we have handled his utterances,� Mr Jantuah said on Radio XYZ�s news analysis programme �The Analyst� on Saturday July 20.
There has been an avalanche of criticism against the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) founder and general overseer after his concerns were published in the media a week ago.
His critics have linked the warning to the election petition case which is in its dying embers before the Supreme Court.
Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., for instance, has been quoted by various media reports to have taken Pastor Mensa Otabil to the cleaners on Radio Gold�s Alhaji and Alhaji current affairs programme on Saturday July 20.
He accused him of creating fear and panic in the country ahead of the Supreme Court ruling on the case.
The judgment will determine whether President John Mahama continues to remain in office or not.
Mr. Jantuah, however, says Dr. Otabil�s critics have been heavy handed.
According to him, many churches in Ghana are always praying about the election petition case and �so when he comes out and he says he feels heaviness, that is what he feels; that is the way he is looking at it�.
Pastor Otabil is reported to have told his congregation on Sunday July 14, 2013 that: �I have a sense of heaviness in my spirit concerning the destiny of this country that there is something heavy ready to fall upon this country�.
He warned that: ��If we don�t take charge of that, we will be in a different state a month from now.�
