Sammy Awuku: If You Dont Rally Behind Your Spiritual Leaders, NDC Will Desecrate Them Piecemeal

Deputy Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku has made a clarion call on Christians in the nation to defend their religious leaders so as to prevent politicians from debasing their reputations. Speaking on Oman FMs political analysis programme on Monday, he took a swipe at functionaries within the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) who have taken a delight in lambasting religious leaders who forewarn Ghanaians to pray for the countrys destiny in order to avert any possible calamity that may befall the nation. Sammy Awuku, who was reacting to the invectives cast upon the General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) Dr. Mensah Otabil by some political figures and government officials, questioned the NDCs logic in verbally assaulting the man of God when all he sought to do was to urge Christians to pray for the peace of the country. According to him, the NDC government seems to drag every man of God who prophesies about an impending doom that awaits the nation through the mud, but tend to give premium to other religious leaders who they probably deem untouchable. He was therefore not surprised since to him; the ruling party is noted for singling out religious leaders for ridicule. Alluding to some previous acts by officials in the government, he asserted that when its Reverend Owusu Bempah sharing his opinion on national issues and offering prayers, they will insult him. When its Pastor Mensah Otabil sharing his opinion on national issues, then, they begin to vilify and use him as punching bag. If its Bishop Addai Mensah, they wont spare him but flog him mercilessly. If youre Presby moderator, the same; Bishop Dag Heward Mills, the same but to him other Pastors receive a rapturous applause from NDC officials when they equally share their minds on national issues In respect of this, Sammy Awuku called on the Christian community to rally support for their religious leaders, emphasizing that if they dont stand and defend their own, these Apostles will forever be taken one [by] one by the government functionaries.
