The public has been advised not to wear political paraphernalia to the celebrations of the first anniversary of the passing away of the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills to be held from 21st to 28th July.
The Chairman of the Planning Committee for the First Anniversary, Mr. Totobi Quakyi, called on Ghanaians, as a mark of respect to halt all activities on the exact time President Mills died.
Addressing the press yesterday in Accra, to highlight the one-week activities of the anniversary, he said the dress code for all the occasion should be black and white.
He said security would be tight throughout the anniversary programme and that media personnel without accreditation from the Ministry of Information and Media Relations would not be allowed to cover the programme.
�So we are advising all media houses to go for an accreditation to help us make preparation for their services� he noted.
Mr. Quakyi said, although the committee had not received any invitation from foreign diplomats who would like to attend the anniversary, the police and the military would be at vantage point to ensure adequate security.
Touching on activities earmarked for the anniversary, he said the event would begin with a choral concert at the National Theater on July, 21st which falls on the birthday of the late President.
Mr. Quakyi said that on the same day, there would be presentations to some selected orphanages since the late President used to celebrate his birthday with the needy.
�On Monday July 24, there would also be a commemorative lecture in honour of the late President at the Accra International Conference Center, which would be delivered by Professor Kwamena Ahwoi.�
A wreath laying ceremony would also be held at the Asomdwe Park on the next day to observe the exact date and time of the passing away of the President.
�This would be followed by an international hockey gala at the Accra hockey pitch to honour the late President since he enjoyed playing and watching the game� he said.
Mr. Quakyi stated on July 26, there would also be a national Moslem prayer to commit the soul of the late President into the hands of God and the following day would be a foundation-stone laying ceremony for the construction of the Atta Mills Memorial Research Library in Cape Coast.
He said on Sunday there would be a Non-Denominational Church Service at the Robert Mensah Stadium at Cape Coast to end the anniversary.
