Marseille President Labrune Tells Andre Ayew He Can Leave

Marseille have told their winger Andre Ayew that he can leave the club if the right offer arrives after the Ghanaian approached the club about his decision to quit the French giants. The news has sparked hopes of English sides Liverpool and Arsenal that they can sign the Ghanaian this summer. This comes after the 23-year-old met the club Marseille president Vincent Labrune on Wednesday to announce to him his decision to leave after clashing with coach Elie Baup over his starting place in the team. Ayew clashed with Baup over his desire to play as a central striker rather that out on the wing, which is not his favourites position. Sources close to the son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele have told GHANAsoccernet.com that Ayew was promised the playmaker position at the end of last season when he held clear-the-air talks with Marseille hierarchy over his future at the club. However, this has not materialized in the clubs pre-season matches as the Ghanaian has been played only on the wings which led to his decision to meet the club president Labrune to tell him about his decision to leave. Ayew has informed me of his intentions. If an offer from a big club comes in and we like it, I will consider it, Marseille president Vincent Labrune said. Marseille, who were previously reluctant to sell the player to potential buyers, are willing to sell him for about $23m this summer. The 23-year old made 35 appearances for the Ligue One side last season, scoring nine goals. He led Marseilles to a runners-up spot in the league with rivals Paris Saint-Germain winning the title. Liverpool, Arsenal and AC Milan could lead the charge to sign him.
