Four Bank Robbery Suspects Nabbed

Four persons, suspected to be the masterminds behind the robbery at the Fumesua branch of the Juaben Rural Bank, have been arrested by the police in Kumasi. The suspects, who were arrested through a collaboration between the police in Kumasi and Accra, have since been brought to Accra for further investigations. They are Patricia Tweneboah Mensah, 31, a cashier at the bank; Akwesi Owusu, 43 and Ali Seidu 30, both porters at the taxi station at the Tech Junction in Kumasi, and Kwabena Ebo, 52. Briefing the media in Accra on Wednesday, the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Commissioner of Police, Mr Prosper Agblor, said Patricia, who was unhappy about her transfer to another branch of the bank at Kwaso, decided to teach her boss, Madam Doris Boatemaa, a lesson. To accomplish her plan, Mr Agblor said Patricia hired the services of Seidu, who introduced her to Owusu who in turn led her to Alabar in Kumasi and introduced her to Ebo for assistance. According to Mr Agblor, Ebo engaged some thugs for the assignment with an assurance from Patricia that she would hand over the money to them when they attacked, since she was the cashier. He said during banking hours on July 30, 2013, three men armed with pistols stormed the bank, attacked the workers and took away an amount of GH81,273.55. The robbers also subjected the security man to severe beatings which resulted in him sustaining head injuries. A witness on the premises of the bank chased them and on reaching Duase, near Kenyase, the suspects, who realised the police were pursuing them, abandoned their car and fled into a nearby bush, said Mr Agblor. He said they then began to fire at the police who also returned fire. In the process, two of the suspects sustained injuries while the other suspect escaped with the money. The injured suspects died while being conveyed to the hospital. Mr Agblor said the police were making efforts to apprehend the third suspect who escaped with the booty.
