Amponsahs Finish Reflects Her Preparation Fuseini

Fuseini Bawa, General Secretary of Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) has tagged Janet Amponsah, the nation's sole candidates showing at the ongoing World Athletics Championship as a reflection of her preparations. Ghana bid farewell to the World Athletics Championship underway in Moscow, Russia after Amponsah failed to go past the 200m heats on Thursday morning having finished first from the bottom. Bawa told GNA Sports "Janet did exactly what she could under the circumstance. For someone competing at the highest athletics meet to have spent all her preparation in Kumasi; she could not have done any better. "To compete at that level with such high profile athletes meant better preparation, several tours and competitions to prep her confidence and also improve her time, readiness and the like. But she had to make do with training in Kumasi and that was not good enough." Amponsah finished seventh in the second heats with a time of 24.07s.The 20-year old failed to make the cut from a line-up that included no major big names, with a time below her personal best, 23.41s recorded at the World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain last July. The poor finish by the Police Officer ends Ghanas hope at the championship that climaxes on Sunday in the Russian capital. The General Secretary said "at this level, athletes compete for their various countries and their preparations, care and readiness for such championships transcends an association and that is something people sadly overlook. "There is a limit to what the GAA can do and it is not pleasant when that reality is failed on people. Janet has prospect, but there is so much she can do given the circumstance." American Kimberlyn Duncan emerged winner with a time of 22.88s, Johanna Danois of France 23.00 and Hanna-Maari Latvala of Finland 23.07s finished in the top three and also qualify automatically for the semis. Gloria Hooper (Italy) 23.10s, Ana Claudia Silva (Brazil) 23-31s and Moa Hjelmer (Sweden) -23.33s finished in that order.
