TOR MD Denies Increasing Salaries Of Board Members

The Managing Director of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has dismissed reports that some top management of the Refinery have arbitrarily increased their salaries without recourse to due process. Workers of the refinery on Wednesday embarked on a demonstration in protest of the alleged increment. They claim the Managing Director had increased his salary from GHC 7,000 to GHC 15,000 while board members were receiving GHC 6,000 a month and have called for an increment in salaries of other staff members as well. But reacting to the reports, the MD of TOR, Ato Ampiah called for a halt in the vilification of board members of the refinery who he says have not had their allowances increased since they joined the board. Board members of TOR dont take salaries they take allowances and our allowances are one of the lowest I also serve on other boards and that of TOR is the lowest. It has not been increased since 2008 and it is still the same I believe the board members are still working because they feel they should and its unfortunate that today they are being vilified in public as if they are the devils of Ghana they are not. Let us appreciate people who deliver time and service to Ghana. He told Citi Business News, the continuous agitations by workers of the refinery if not stopped will have dire consequences on the refinery. Every refinery is an international business if an enterprise it not peaceful no one will invest in it so its unfortunate we are finding ripples in TOR. I want to assure the public that we have taken this as an internal matter we are discussing the issue and I am sure by the end of the weekend we will come back on a peaceful light.
