Manhyia Made Otumfuo Bribery Allegation Public - Lawyer

A Private legal practitioner Yaw Oppong has stated that the Asanteman Council is giving claims of bribery too much attention with its responses. The council has expressed fury and outrage over the new free press newspaper publication linking the Asantehene to alleged bribery of some justices of the Supreme Court, with regards to the 2012 election petition. The Asanteman council has also petitioned the National Media Commission (NMC) over the matter. But speaking to XYZ News Mr. Oppong said the reaction of Manhyia has rather drawn unwanted public attention to accusations . I have a personal problem with the response given by the Manhyia palace. I think that most people got to know of the story after the Asantehene decided to respond. Although he acknowledges that it is right for Otumfuo to clear his name, a more pragmatic move he says, would be to investigate if the New Free Press newspaper is indeed a registered company. To put it out in the open gives room for a public discussion, then people begin to make and form opinions about the matter. So the best thing to do would be to try and find the people behind the story; then perhaps sue them , He suggested. This, Mr. Oppong said, would bring the council a step closer to bringing the matter to a close
