Joshua Clottey Seeks Self Redemption

Joshua Clottey begins his self-redemption campaign today when he fights American Dashon Johnson in a light-middleweight contest at the Paramount Theatre in Huntington, New York, in the United States. Following losses to Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao in successive world title bids, Clotteys only fight thereafter was a contest that lasted no more than two rounds. Todays fight will be the Ghanaians first fight in almost two years after he stopped another America, Calvin Green, in Texas, USA. That second round knock-out victory was Clotteys first fight after he moved up from the welterweight division. The 35-year-old former International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion will be facing a 25-year-old youngster who has won just once in his last nine fights. And with Clottey seeking to be considered for another chance at the world title, todays contest will provide a platform to make that firm statement. In recent times, he works in the gym with trainer Godwin Dzanie Kotey, better known as Alloway, a trusted trainer who played a big part in the formative years of the former world champion.
