NPP's Letter Casts Aspersions On Council Of State

Executive Secretary of the Ghana Free Zones Board (GFZB) has stated that the letter written by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), calling for an engagement between political parties and the Council of State over the appointment of an Electoral Commissioner casts aspersion on the Council of State. Kojo Twum Boafo was of the view that the letter which was signed by Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, the National Chairman of the opposition NPP, sought to create the impression that the Council of State is an arm of the Executive" and that according to him, "is not true. Jakes letter, it even casts aspersions at the Council of State itself even before he asked to do what he wants them to do. He saidyou perceived to be an arm of the Executive. And its not true because some of them are elected. The Council of State came about as our own unique answer to not having an upper house. Because contrary to what President Kufour is now saying, I think an Upper House in this country would simply create problems, an unelected bunch of people causing more problems, he argued. Speaking on Metro TVs Good Morning Ghana programme, Mr. Twum Boafo vehemently disagreed with the call for the consultation with political parties on the appointment of an EC boss and the creation of an Upper House of Parliament, similar to that of the Britain. We have asked the President to do certain things. That is why we have elected him. Let us allow him to do those things, the GFZB Boss asserted.
