Ghana To Play Egypt In Kumasi 0n Sunday October 13

Ghana football authorities have decided to play Egypt in Kumasi on Sunday, 13 October in the first-leg of the World Cup qualifying playoff. According to Egypts state-run news agency MENA, the Ghana Football Association informed the Egyptian embassy in Accra that the match would be played in Kumasi. The revelation confirms the long-held belief that the Black Stars will host the match at the feared Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi where they are guaranteed massive support. The day of the match which has now been confirmed for Sunday is also different from the last match the Black Stars played as they hosted Zambia on a Friday. The decision will go down well with many supporters of the team who criticized the decision to play the Zambia match on a Friday which is a working day in Ghana. The Kumasi stadium is where Cairo giants Zamalek famously suffered a 5-1 defeat by Asante Kotoko in an African Champions League game in 1987. The return leg will be played in November in Egypt. However, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) is yet to decide on the venue which will host the game amid security concerns in the country. Egypts last competitive game against Ghana saw them beat the Black Stars 1-0 to win the 2010 African Cup of Nations in Angola. Ghana crushed Egypt 3-0 in a friendly game last January in the United Arab Emirates. The Pharaohs are eyeing their first World Cup appearance since 1990 while Ghana are seeking to reach the tournament for the third consecutive time, having reached the quarter finals in their last appearance in 2010. The Black Stars are seeking to make their third successive appearance at the World Cup having excelled at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.
