HIPC Funds Not Frozen - Govt

Deputy Minister for Information and Media Relations, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, has denied reports that HIPC funds meant for Members of Parliament have been frozen. My checks with the Ministry of Finance indicate that it is not a freeze as such but it is a delay that usually arises at the disbursement of some earmarked revenue or statutory funds so it is not entirely accurate that these funds have been frozen, he said. Disgruntled Members of Parliament have threatened to boycott Parliamentary proceedings if the issue is not addressed immediately. The MPs also claim government has failed to pay their statutory funds which include the health fund, District Assemblies Common Fund and GetFund. Mr. Kwakye-Ofosu told Citi News, appealed to the MPs that although no timeline can actually be given as to when the money will to be paid, government is working assiduously to address the situation. Meanwhile, the leadership of Parliament will on Wednesday meet a number of officials in charge of the various accounts to seek possible resolution to the matter.
