Central Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong, has taken his battle to the door step of the hometown of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, Ekumfi-Otuam, accusing the chiefs and people of the area of wrongdoing.
This was after the youth in the area embarked on a demonstration against the delays in completion of road projects in the area said to have been awarded on contract.
In the course of the demonstration, the youth blocked the road leading to the town and battled police personnel detailed there to restore calm.
The Minister who visited the area described the action of the chiefs as disgusting, since according to him all the nation�s resources cannot be used to develop only Otuam just because it is the hometown of the late President, as reported by myjoyonline.com.
He also described the demands of the chiefs and people of the area as completely misplaced because the late president Atta Mills was President of the Republic of Ghana and not just for people of Otuam.
He has since asked the Ekumfi Traditional Council to as a matter of urgency, call the chiefs and people of Otuam to order before things get out of hand.
The youth of Otuam however argued that the home town of the late President Mills deserved better in terms of development.
They have asked the government to as a matter of urgency do whatever it takes to uplift the status of the village since it was lagging behind in terms of development projects.
Samuel Sarpong however assured the chiefs and people of Ekumfi-Otuam of government�s preparedness to do whatever to give the area its share of development.
The demonstrators blocked the road leading to the town as early as 5:00am to enable them to embark on their action.
The police who had information about the demonstration stormed the scene to stop them, a situation which infuriated the drivers, causing them to throw stones at the police.
The police officers also retaliated by firing rubber bullets to disperse the angry mob, resulting in the injuries of some 14 people.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Ibrahim Kweku Dawson was nearly lynched by the irate drivers and residents of the area when he came to the scene to access the situation, since they accused him of calling in the police to stop them from their demonstration.
