We Wont Allow ECG/VRA To Visit Their Inefficiencies On Us - Karbo

We will resist this increment. Even one percent increment, we must not entertain it, said Anthony Karbo, former National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in protest against the recent utility tariff increment announced by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC). He has therefore called on all Ghanaians to stand against such insensitive increment. PURC, Wednesday, announced an upward adjustment in Electricity and Water; 78.9% and 52% respectively. Even though the increment will take effect in October, various groups and individuals are already protesting it. And from all indications, the increment has not gone down well with most Ghanaians with Anthony Karbo was no exception. According to him, the increment is very insensitive and the protest must be massive against such prices We have already laid our national programme of action and very soon we will announce a date to go on one of Ghanas biggest turn out demonstrations against this insensitive action. We are suffering, enough is enough, he indicated. Karbo bemoaned governments act of increasing taxes on everything in the country and went further to question what the money is being used for. Government is increasing taxes on everything, condoms, cutlass and so on. People must know that this government and their approach to taxes is predatory, he added. Contributing to panel discussions on Peace FMs Morning show Kokrokoo, Karbo added that Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) should find other ways of raising revenue or funds to clear its debt which has risen from $44 million to $66 million instead of demanding for increment. We cannot accept this increment because you can increase the tariff by 300%; what is the guarantee that when paid it will resolve the difficulties at ECG; the over $66M debt? There are problems at ECG and we are not going to allow them to transfer their ineffectiveness (to us consumers)., HE said.
