Apiculture is a lucrative venture

Mr Richard Okoe, President of Ghana National Bee Keepers Association, has urged the youth to consider apiculture or bee keeping as it is a lucrative venture. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza, Mr Okoe, who is also the Operations Manager of Nkoranza Kwabre Rural Bank, said apiculture has a lot of prospects which the youth can undertake to improve their living standards. He said it was unfortunate that many unemployed youth complain about lack of jobs in the country whilst they could venture into apiculture or agriculture to earn a living. Mr Okoe said bee keeping was one of the easiest economic ventures because the bees that settle in the bee hives trap themselves in an ordinary and natural way and that there was no extra cost in housing them. The initial cost involved in the project is the preparation of the beehives and there is no application of any agricultural inputs or methods in the project, he said. Mr Okoe stressed the need for members of the Association to produce quality honey for the market in order to maintain Ghanas record as the producer of the best honey in the world.
