Federation Of Muslim Councils Condemns Killing Of Awoonor

The Federation of Muslim Councils (FMC) has been saddened by the brutal killing of former Chairman of the Council of State, Professor Kofi Awoonor, last Saturday by the Somali al-Shabab murderous gang in Nairobi, Kenya. The FMC hereby expresses its condolences to the family of Prof. Kofi Awoonor, the Government and people of Ghana for the loss of their illustrious son and a comrade, a statement signed by Hajj Muhammad Kpakpo Addo, General Secretary, FMC, said. The FMC strongly condemned what it described as the outrageous and senseless destruction of property and innocent lives by extremist murderous groups who call themselves Muslims. The Islamic faith, a according to FMC, promotes justice, peace, and freedom, and the Qur'an repeatedly urges restraint, and warns believers not to transgress or become oppressors in prosecuting any cause (Qur'an 41:34-35). The FMC, therefore, joins the democratic and peace-loving people of the world in speaking out against the continuing violations of human rights and other abuses by armed terrorist groups in Africa and beyond. It said that the barbaric attack on the Westgate Mall must act as a call on African leaders and people to work together in finding lasting solutions to the numerous armed conflicts on the continent. The FMC also joins other sobering voices around the world in prayer for a return to peace in Somalia and other conflict zones in the world.
