Falling Rocks Pose Danger To Aburi Road Users

Motorists who use the Aburi-Accra road could be in danger following an alert from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) indicating that a rock fell from the mountain on Monday evening. Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, the head of geological disasters at NADMO, Mr Jospeh Ankrah warned that larger rocks on that part of the mountain had become very unstable and could fall at any time. We went to the site and noticed that a rock not very big though, had fallen on the side of the road. Since the smaller rocks support bigger rocks, immediate actions need to be taken to avoid casualties and unpleasant consequences According to him, NADMO had informed the police who had sent their patrol team to assess the problem and redirect traffic. Asked whether there were actions being taken to prevent the bigger rocks from falling, he remarked that NADMO has also contacted the Ghana Highway Authority to visit the site and take the necessary actions." Mr. Ankrah also indicated that there were considerations by NADMO as to "whether an earth moving equipment should be used to bring the rocks down. He further stated that NADMO was taking precautionary measures to avert any disaster that might emerge.
