Kudos To NPP Says Felix Kwakye Ofosu

A Deputy Minister of Information, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has commended the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for dismissing a proposal which according to him, nearly caused damage to the party. The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), at a meeting on Thursday, dropped a proposal to have an early congress to elect a presidential candidate for the 2016 elections. The proposal which emerged after the election petition case, became a controversial issue and generated tension within the party (NPP). Reacting to the issue in a panel discussion on Peace FMs morning show Kokrokoo, the Deputy Minister said the issue became an albatross on the neck of the party, adding it is good that it has been taken care of within the shortest time. The proposal was not sound because they have more than three years to the next election and even in 2012 election, they chose their candidate two years before the elections (and yet lost); and so no one can say that they lost the election because they didnt choose their candidate on time. There was no justification for that proposalIt is a victory for democracy that it (proposal) was annulled. They took the right decision in shelving a proposal that was flawed from the very beginning, he indicated. Felix added that some of these issues (proposal) were as a result of the election petition. According to him, what is normally done after an election is for a political party to reflect and learn from their mistakes especially if the party had lost an election; and that will help in planning for the future; however, they (NPP) had to wait to do that after the election petition. Every party needs to reflect at one point in time to be able to make better decisions for the future. After the elections most of the political parties did that (planning and reflecting) but the NPP kept long in doing that and I think that was one of the things that worried them., He added.
