Hearts March On

Accra Hearts of Oak secured a lone goal victory over Berekum Chelsea in the sixth week Premier League game at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, to tie with Kumasi Asante Kotoko atop the log. It was Gilbert Fiamenyos header in the 48th minute that granted the phobians all three points in an end-to-end game which could pass as one of the best in the six week old league. Earlier in the first half, it was Abdul Basit who could have opened the scores in the 20th minute for Chelsea after disposing off all defenders on his path but fell flat in front of the ball to let Hearts off the hook. But the brightest chance in the game came in the 38th minute when Eric Kumi, had only keeper John Moses to beat but his feeble shot was an easier task for the goalie to keep the first half barren. On resumption, Hearts were more aggressive with substitute Ashietey Ollenu setting up Owusu Bempah whose cross was headed in by Fiamenyo for the only goal of the match. Winful Cobinah could have made it two for Hearts after racing deep into the vital area but his shot missed target narrowly in the 57th minute. Chelsea found what will have been the equalizer in 70th minute through substitute Roger Adongo but referee Cecil Fletcher ruled it illegal for a foul on Philemon McCarthy. Hearts suffered an injury blow in the later stages of the game when Stephen Tetteh was carried off the pitch forcing David Duncan to play three center backs, which gave the visitors the upper hand to dominate the game. Hearts now has 15 points from a possible 18.
