Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF), a human rights and media advocacy non-governmental organisation (NGO) on Tuesday honored Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, a former Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, for his contributions to the growth of the media in the region. For his prize, he received a citation under the GLOMEF Excellent Award,instituted by the NGO to honour personalities in the region who have distinguished themselves both in political and the academic front. Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Nyarko, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani West and a former Minister of State in the erstwhile President John Agyekum Kufuor government also received a similar citation for his contributions to the development of the region. Mr Nyamekye-Marfo said the media played a critical role in national and that the government appreciated the role of media and that was why it continued to ensure that the media executed its national duties without fear. He appealed to the media to focus on how to tackle the issue of poor sanitation and the challenges in especially the health and education sectors. Mr Raphael Godlove Ahenu, Chief Executive Officer of GLOMEF, said the award was instituted by the NGO in 2010 to appreciate and recognize the contributions of individuals and organizations to the growth of the region.
