Kotoko Regain Three-Point Lead After Hasmal Win

Asante Kotoko beat Hasaacas 2-1 on Thursday to record their best ever start to the season with a sixth straight win. Goals from captain Michael Akuffo and Richard Mpong handed the vital win to Coach Mas-Ud Dramanis side in their outstanding Premier League fixture. The Premier League champions started very well an should have been up within the opening 10 minutes. Yahaya Mohammed and Christopher Bonney combined well to play Jordan Opoku through on goal in the 7th minute but the midfielders side-footed shot went wide. Stephen Oduro then missed a 25-yard free kick after Michael Mensah was fouled to draw the games first booking in the 14th minute. Hasaacas then Gita fine opportunity to score first but Richard Yamoah failed to connect to a delightfully whipped-in cross from the left. Skipper Michael Akuffo then broke the deadlock in the 19th minute with a stunning 20-yard free kick to give Kotoko the lead. Hasaacas made an immediate effort to hit back but Abeiku Ainooson and goalkeeper Isaac Amoako combined well to save the dangerous situation. The visitors created descent opportunities afterwards but were unable to finish off their numerous impressive moves to go into recess a goal down. They failed to keep up their strong finish to the first half and were stung within just a minute into the restart through Richard Mpong. Hasaacas however clawed themselves back into the game and deservedly halved the deficit in the 60th minute through Frederick Quayson. Yahaya Mohammed tried to restore Kotokos two-goal lead four minutes later with a cheeky effort but the Hasaacas goalkeeper was alert. Kwabena Edusei was then gifted a glorious chance to extend Kotokos lead from an 80th minute spot kick. But the defenders kick hit the upright his first ever penalty miss for the Porcupine Warriors. That penalty miss swung the game into Hasaacas favour as they mounted a late sustained surge to pull even. Kotoko however held their own through to the final whistle to record their sixth straight win to regain their three-point lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League.
