We Salute General Nunoo-Mensah

The problem we have in this country is the reason why we are where we are as a nation is that we hate the truth. General Nunoo Mensah, the National Security Advisor, over the weekend dared to say what someone could have said long time ago, but we are all afraid to say. Workers, who are the backbone of this countrys economy, have over the years taken all of us for granted. When the National Democratic Congress (NDC) took over the reins of power in 2009, the late President, John Evans Atta Mills, and his able lieutenants decided to introduce some equity in the pay structure of public workers. The Single Spine pay policy was introduce to have some rationalization of the salaries of public workers and pays went up, thereby having a negative effect on government chest. Workers in Ghana, like Oliver Twist are still asking for more, they just dont stop there; they have decided to hold the government t to ransom, by embarking on senseless strikes. We salute General Nunoo Mensah for not burying his head in the sand, and behaving like the ostrich, but deciding to tell workers to get out of the country, if there were not satisfied with how much the country can afford to pay them. Where has patriotism gone in this country? These workers have presided over corruption as we saw during the sitting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament. A lot of them go to work and do nothing. We seriously need to introduce job evaluation, so that we know the worth of each worker, so that when they make any demand, we know they deserve it. Who measures the productivity of these people? The New Patriotic Party (NPP) can choose to play politics with what the good General has said; issuing statement, followed by public comments that the President should sack General Nunoo Mensah is what we will call political patronage. NDC will not be in power forever, strike actions are not peculiar to one government, today if your neighbors beard is on fire, you fetch water close to yours. Instead of joining hands to find a lasting solution to the perennial problem and one that is likely to collapse the economy, they are at their usual best doing politics, all for power. This hypocrisy and lack of patriotism is going to kill us all, if care is not taking. General Nunoo Mensah is our hero, who is joining him in his crusade, only time will tell.
