Ghana Will Win World Cup Sports Minister Prophesies

Youth and Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah says he is convinced beyond doubt that the FIFA World Cup trophy will return to Ghana after the Brazil 2014 Mundial. The sports chief, together with GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi and other government officials, received the trophy which arrived into the country on board a Coca Cola private jet at the Air Force base yesterday amid fanfare. The Sports Minister said the hosting of the most coveted cup in Ghana for the third successive time was unprecedented and an indication of good things to happen to Ghana football. He revealed that Ghanas participation in the soccer festival would go beyond football and that plans were in place to prepare the Black Stars mentally, psychologically and physically ahead of the World Cup. To the Sports Minister, there was something magical about the FIFA World Cup trophy, and he described the touching of the trophy in the aircraft as spiritual. Its an honour to witness and receive this trophy on behalf of the president of the land, John Mahama. May this trophy return to Ghana. It is possible, Ghana will win the World Cup, said the Sports Minister. FIFA representative Pekka Martensson, who was on board with broadcast journalist Kofi Asare Brako, described the tour put together by Coca Cola, as successful. The trophy was whisked away under heavy security to the Lizzy Sports Complex shortly after arrival and was later hosted by president Mahama at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra in a Gala. Today, it would be paraded through some streets of Accra and finally land at the Accra International Conference Centre where the public would be offered the rare opportunity to have a closer look at the silverware.
