Cocaine Cowboy Arrested (Photo)

A 20-YEAR-OLD man suspected to be involved in a drug cartel trade in the city of Kumasi has been arrested by the Asokwa District Police Command. The young man, known as Rashid Mahama aka Alhaji, was arrested by a police patrol team at Ahinsan, a suburb of Kumasi after a hot chase. He and two others were intercepted on December 1, 2013 at about 2:00am by the patrol team from Asokwa District Police Command while on a Jog motorbike registered M-10-GR 1044 with 125 wrappers of cocaine as well as quantities of Indian hemp. Supt. Dr. Nana Nyamekye Adane-Ameyaw, Asokwa District Police Commander, said the two who were sitting behind Rashid, however, managed to escape and had since gone into hiding. At a media briefing, the police commander, stated that Rashid who claimed to be a cowboy, ignored numerous flashlight signals to stop and then sped off. According to him, the police patrol team gave the suspect a hot chase and arrested him with a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and 125 wrappers of white substance suspected to be cocaine concealed in a black polythene bag. Also in the possession of the suspect were three mobile phones and 50 boxes of matches, the police officer added. Supt. Rev. Adane-Ameyaw indicated that Rashid, in an attempt to free himself, offered to bribe the police officers with a sum of GH�420. However, the policemen being professional officers arrested Rashid together with the suspected narcotic drugs and brought him to the station for investigations, the commander noted. He added that the suspect had since been charged with the offence of possessing narcotic drugs, contrary to section 2(1) of the PNDC law 236/90, and remanded in police custody to reappear in court on December 18, 2013.
