Ghana Needs Cardiovascular Centres Across The Country Prof. Frimpong Boateng

The Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng is calling on philanthropists to donate to the establishment of cardiovascular centres across the country as well as the funding of heart surgeries. According to him, governments efforts will not be enough, hence the need for all Ghanaians to help. When it comes to patient care, although the insurance system is there, we dont have the wealth to make the insurance cover all of such cases. So we should try and do the necessary things so that we can also help the government, he said. Professor Boateng made the appeal at the launch of the Mokobe at 10 Saving Heart Project, founded by gospel musician Nii Okai. The foundation is focused on raising funds to finance heart surgeries for 10 needy Ghanaian Children, below 10 years with cardiovascular diseases. According to him, the absence of cardiovascular centres in the country has made it difficult for doctors outside the country to come back and work. Just as there are doctors here who are doing well, there are doctors elsewhere who are also doing well but they cant come to Korle-bu and work because the Centre in Korle-bu is very small and we need some more centres to work, he said. In his opinion, when the centres are many in the country, the cost of caring for patients will be reduced. Professor Boateng commended Nii Okai for the establishment of the Mokobe Saving Heart Project.
