Atik Eulogises Mandela; Asks African Leaders To Emulate Him

Policy Analyst of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, in celebrating the life of Nelson Mandela has asked African leaders to learn from the ways of the man whose death has affected everybody worldwide. According to him, if African leaders will ensure the comfort of their people instead of themselves, just like Mandela who was an icon of African emancipation, the African continent will be a better place. But that is not the case African leaders seek their comfort at the expense of the people they govern. If half of African leaders will be selfless and committed; I am sure Africa will be a different story. The present leadership are not doing very well to achieve the independence that is left to achieve. It is not easy but leadership must show commitment. Sometimes, it seems there is some form of spirit that possesses Africans especially when you become a leader, he told Kwami Sefa-Kayi on Kokrokoo programme. Atik believes the achievements of Nelson Mandela especially freedom for the blacks is not being seen because the gap between the poor and the rich continues to widen. Mandela could have chosen to stay on the seat as long as he wants but he didnt. If we can learn the ways of Mandela, in terms of being selfless and committed, ensuring the comfort of others; not inconveniencing people at the expense of your comfort, we will go forward. Everybody is celebrating Mandela because he has demonstrated that he was dedicated to the emancipation and the comfort of South Africans. That is all that we need in our African leaders he suggested.
