Professor Clement Dzidonu, President of the Accra Institute of Technology, has attributed the massive unemployment situation the country to the lack of skilled human resource.
He said developing the right human resources for the country would require that the nation shifted to technological training, as it was ICT that ruled the world of today.
Prof Dzidonu made the assertion at a meeting with some journalists in the Western Region to officially introduce the AIT Open University system and other programmes of the school to the region.
He said for the country to reach and achieve its goal of middle income status, Information and Technology education must be taken seriously, to build the capacities of future leaders who would be capable of managing the various sectors of the economy.
Professor Dzidonu, also a consultant, who was part of the team that drafted Ghana�s ICT policies, bemoaned the slow pace of implementation.
He said the over-dependence of business programmes had the tendency to create shortfalls in other sector of economic management.
Mr. Osei Boakye, Registrar of the School said it would soon set up a National Physics Laboratory for research and academic work by students and industry.
The Accra Institute of Technology is an independent technology-focused university modeled on internationally recognized Institutes of Technology, such as the Massachusettes Institute of Technology in the United States of America and the Indian Institute of Technology, among others.
Mr. Osei-Boakye said the AIT since its inception in 2009 had produced almost 10 PHD holders soon to be graduated.
