Gov't Will Promote Ghana Academy Of Arts - Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has assured the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) of government�s readiness to promote its activities to help it gain the needed public recognition. �Government is willing to cooperate with the academy to promote its work in any way,� he said. The President made this known when he met fellows of the academy during an inspection of work on a four storey office building for the Academy. The Office building for the academy will cost Ghc12 million. President Mahama who cut the sod for the construction of the academy said he is keen on seeing its completion because it will stimulate the work of the Ghana Academy of Arts. According to him, it will enable the academy contribute effectively to the development of the country and Africa in general by examining and addressing critical issues of development. �We all know that we live in a knowledge society today, and it is how you promote and disseminate knowledge that makes the difference in the success between countries, and so government takes a keen interest in the work of the academy,� he added. In his welcome address, the President of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, Professor Francis Allotey, appealed to the president to aid the academy to honour members who have contributed in no small ways to the development of the country via an annual awards ceremony. �Talking about having some annual events that draw attention to the work of the academy, we are willing to collaborate on that because although you could be doing a good job, so long as the public does not know about it, they won�t realise what you are doing,� the President assured.
