Over 100 gays took over a funeral at Amanorkrom Akuapem in the Eastern Region over the weekend when one Julius Ohene, aka Kwaku Amono, who was strongly suspected to be gay, was buried. The gays attended the funeral with their partners of varying ages. The gays, who were reported to have come from Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Koforidua and other parts of the country, nearly clashed with the family of the deceased. There were not many gays at the funeral as originally anticipated because, according to some of the gays, the departed soul had not been paying his dues. �The majority of our people did not turn up because our guy had not been regular in terms of his dues,� one of the gays blurted out. Right from the beginning when the 32-year-old undertaker was being prepared for burial from the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital mortuary at Mampong Akuapem, the gays had a confrontation with the family of the deceased when they attempted to perform a rite, which the family members strongly resisted. That notwithstanding, the gays after the funeral held a dinner dance where they exhibited their dancing prowess with their partners and subsequently performed a �widowhood� rite for the deceased�s partner. Some of the people that The General Telegraph interacted with expressed shock over what they had seen at the funeral and called on Ghanaians to speak against gayism. They appealed to religious leaders to take concrete steps to preach against homosexuality before it gets out of hand.
