Accommodation Crises Hit Schools In North Tongu District

Schools in the North Tongu District in the Volta Region may soon run out of teachers if immediate steps are not taken to resolve the accommodation problem in the district. A visit by Radio Ghana to some of the major towns in the newly created district, such as Bator, Mepe and Aveyime reveal that the major difficulty for teachers in accepting posting to the area has to do with inadequate accommodation. Already, the district records very low performance in external examination and the situation could go worse should teachers refuse posting to the schools in the area. Radio Ghanas correspondent has been finding out more about the situation and reports that the few teachers and other public servants there are complaining about the exorbitant rent charged by landlords and landladies as well as the general cost of living.
