Residents of Ampabame 2 New Site, a farming community in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region woke up to a gory scene on the morning of Christmas when a young man in his late 30s was found dead in a pool of blood.
Kwabena Asare, the deceased and father of four, was believed to have been murdered by unknown assailants who clubbed him to death and later abandoned him.
A big cut was seen on his face from which he bled profusely while he held firmly to a polythene bag whose contents were not immediately known.
According to some residents and acquaintances, the evening before his untimely death, the deceased was spotted at some drinking spots.
He was reported to have stayed late with his friends until all of them decided to retire to bed. It was gathered that one of them offered to escort him for fear that he might not be able to locate his home.
The others retired to their homes but early the following morning, Kwabena Asare was spotted by some passerby lying prostrate in the pool of blood with his hands clasped to a white polythene bag.
A critical examination on the body revealed series of severe bruises and wounds suggesting he might have been engaged in a scuffle with his assailants who overpowered him and clubbed him to death.
The body had since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Morgue while investigators at the Asokwa Divisional Police Command are investigating the matter to unravel the actual cause of death.
At the time of going to the press, no arrest had been made but residents were tight-lipped on the matter in view of the security implications involved in the death of the young.
The police confirmed the incident to the Daily Guide newspaper but indicated that investigations were ongoing.
