Arrival of Queens relay baton is good omen-Afede

Togbe Afede the Fourteenth, President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, has described the Queens relay baton as an iconic symbol of peace, development, civilization and togetherness. He said the arrival of the Baton in the country was a good omen, signaling happy times for the country in 2014, and asked the citizenry to be hopeful for a fruitful year. Togbe Afede said this at a durbar in Ho to receive the Baton on tour to publicize the impending Commonwealth Games scheduled for July in Glasgow. The Queens relay baton, which arrived in the country on Saturday, was on tour through some towns and cities of the Eastern and Volta Regions, and expected to be in Nigeria within the week. Togbe Afede said the arrival of the Baton had added a new dimension to the New Year celebration, and said it was important for Ghanaians to draw inspirations from the arrival of the Baton in the country. He said 2014 started on a good note, and urged Ghanaians to work hard for the country to make giant strides economically for the benefit of all. Mr Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Volta Regional Minister, who presented the Baton to Togbe Afede, said he was fortunate to have a feel of the Baton. He called for peace and unity and the need for the country to maintain its democracy for more of such good moments. Professor Francis Dodoo, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, said the tour of the Baton was to announce the beginning of the Commonwealth Games. Young people, visibly excited, lined up the streets of Ho to welcome the Baton. At about 1200 hours, the Baton was taken to the Sacred Heart Cathedral at Ho Bankoe, where Reverend Father Patrick Atta, offered good luck prayers over it. The short durbar was characterized by traditional music and dance.
