Pay GH 20,000 Or Go To Jail Court Orders Pregnant Woman

An Accra Circuit Court has ordered a pregnant woman to cough out GH20,000 cedis as bail sum or go to jail for two weeks. Sheila Obed-Amon, a trader, stood as surety for her sister who is now at large in a fraud case. Not the submission put in by her counsel could change the decision of the court. Sheilas Sister Sharon Tetteh a businesswoman is accused of defrauding a lecturer of GH13,000 cedis under the pretext of securing her a plot of land at Nmai Dzor. The GH13,000 is said to part payment of land estimated at GH65,000 cedis. Since May 2013, Sheila had failed to produce her sister in court. The court also admitted Sheila to bail in the sum of GH10,000 cedis so she could produce her sister but failed to do so. According to the court presided over by Ms Ellen V. Amoah, Sheila has been telling stories to the court and it could not entertain that any longer. Meanwhile, the court has ordered the arrest of a second surety in the matter, Lenon Tetteh the brother of the accused person for also failing to appear before the court. Soon after the court announced its decision, Sheila was seen making several calls.
