Government says it has invested heavily in the education sector over the years than many other African countries and it is about time the country harvests the needed gains from the investments made. Inspite of this, government will not relent on its effort to meet the challenges in the sector. The Minister of Education, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang speaking at the New Year school in Accra said the Education sector is very critical to government and to that effect, government is seriously occupied by building more educational infrastructure to accelerate improvement in the sector. Meanwhile, a Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Professor Jophus Anamuah-Mensah has called for massive infrastructural development at all levels of education to address the educational needs of the Country. He said currently only 4.1% of Ghanaian students have access to tertiary education, a situation he described as dangerous to the future of the country. Professor Anamuah-Mensah said Ghana will have an additional five million students seeking admission into tertiary institutions by 2025 and that 17 Universities with 30,000 capacity each is needed to address this challenge. He said this at the 65th New Year School and Conference at the University of Ghana.
