NDC Built 3,284 Schools In 5 Years

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has built 3,284 schools from kindergarten to senior high school level in five years. The government has also cut the number of children out of school by 46%. The number was reduced from a little over 500,000 in 2006 to 278,000 in 2013. Deputy Minister of Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced these at a public forum as part of activities to mark the first anniversary of President Mahama�s government. According to the Deputy Minister, the NDC government has increased kindergartens from 11,827 schools in 2008 to 13,305 in 2013, an increase of 1,478 schools. At the primary level, schools were increased from 13,510 in 2008 to 14,112 last year, an increase of 602. At the junior high school (JHS) level, the Minister said as at 2008, JHS numbered 7,658 and this was increased to 8,818 schools, an increase of 1,162 schools. Mr Ablakwa said an additional 42 senior high schools were built in the five years, increasing the number from 493 to 535 in 2013. He said 12.5 million text books were procured last year and distributed free to students. He noted that 25,000 out-of-school children were placed in schools in 2013. He added that the people of Ghana voted for the NDC because they chose quality before access.
