Prez Mahama: Im Not Afraid To Crack The Whip.If Its Necessary; Ill Let The Whip Go

Those with the believe and conviction that President John Dramani Mahama is a weakling when it comes to sacking his appointees over wrong doings need to reconsider that thought after he (Mahama) demonstrated that as the coach of the team whatever he says is final. Many have argued that President Mahama has no guts to kick out nonperforming ministers and appointees from his government. Even just last week, former President Jerry John Rawlings, founder of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), called for a cabinet reshuffle to ward off non-performing government appointees. To him, this will help President Mahama to combat corruption and also give competent people, the opportunity to advance the course of his aspirations. He explained that some government appointees lacked the ability to administer the affairs of their sectors, hence jeopardizing the NDC's electoral fortunes, come 2016. But during his media encounter on Tuesday at the Flagstaff House as part of his one year in office, President Mahama took advantage of the function to send a strong signal home to those who think otherwise of his ability to let the whip go. ..but the main question was, am I afraid to crack the whip? No I am not afraid to crack the whip; if it is necessary to let the whip go, it will go and that I am sure that time will tell, he cautioned. The President was answering a question on why during the wake of the rampant fires, his directive that fire tenders be placed at a vantage points to protect state installations was not carried out resulting in recent fire outbreak at the Old Parliament House, yet no-one has been sacked for it. If you fire your fire chief for every fire, I wonder how many chief fire officers you would sack in the year. Even in advanced countries there are fires and they don't sack their chief officers. It is the duty of the citizens to make sure that their houses or places of work are safe.Fire prevention must be a culture for the people the important thing is not incumbent on the Chief Fire Officer but is incumbent on us who occupy those properties to make sure that we make fire safety a part of the occupancy of those premises...and so for the Daily Graphic, Daily Guide, for all your media houses, you must have fire extinguishers. It is not Fire Officers who are going to put fire extinguishers there...it is said that within certain time frame, you must always change the wiring of your building; I guess that it is not a practice we have in Ghana..., he said.
