Sir John On Hit List As Plan Is Hatched To Smear Him

Character assassination will soon become the order of the day within the corridors of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the date executives of the party gets closer. One person who would be at the receiving is no other person than the incumbent General Secretary of the party, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie. The Enquirer has stumbled on a grand agenda by some of his challengers to smear him with thick mud in the coming days. In fact, there has been a meeting at a location in Accra where the agenda was set against Mr. Afriyie and will be activated soon. The meeting, which was at behest of one of the contestants, was necessitated by the fact that Mr. Afriyies name is on top at every level that particular contestant visited and it has become increasingly clear that Mr. Afriyie would retain his position come March this year. A source within the meeting, which took place on December 30, last year, told The Enquirer that it was hatched that Mr. Afriyie, popularly called Sir John, should be made to look like someone who added nothing to the fortunes of the party. According to the source, it was discussed that stories should be thrown out to the effect that Mr. Afriyie has incurred lots of debt for the NPP by lodging in various hotels when he became the General Secretary of the party. However, checks by The Enquirer revealed that Mr. Afriyie lodged only at the SSNIT Guest House in Accra, when he was elected and it was because he had spent all his life in Kumasi where he has houses. In fact, Mr. Afriyie had to pay for his bills and was later reimbursed by the party. It is instructive to know that at the time Sir John took over as General Secretary, the NPP could not afford to get him a vehicle so he brought his own car from Kumasi. At the nocturnal meeting, it was discussed that Mr. Afriyie should be accused of forcing the party to buy him a house. But the truth of the matter is that the NPP decided to get a house for its executives who do not have accommodation in Accra. The documents covering the house are with the Minority Leadership in Parliament as it was the MPs who floated the idea of purchasing the house. Party insiders told The Enquirer the move to purchase a house to be used by party officials has rather saved the party from paying huge hotel bills. The General Secretary of the NPP is the only executive on salary within the partys administrative setup. Again, it was discussed at the meeting that Mr. Afriyie should be accused of having purchased 15 vehicles that are being used for rental business in Kumasi. Facts available to The Enquirer however are that Mr. Afriyie has a Ford vehicle which he purchased with a loan obtained from the bank. He decided to use it for the rental business in order to repay the loan quickly. The Enquirer can state without any fear of contradiction that he still has two months left to fully to settle the loan. Party insiders told The Enquirer that the plan to smear Mr. Afriyie and other the current national executives were hatched long ago but various issues raised have all backfired. It is recalled that issues relating to funds accrued from membership cards and registrations popped up and national executives, including Mr. Afriyie, were said to have embezzled some funds. However, those issues turned out to be false as funds from those things were properly offered to the treasury of the NPP. It was after it backfired that the next sinister agenda has been hatched against Mr. Afriyie. The source within the meeting told The Enquirer that it was made clear that Mr. Afriyie was on top of his game and that he should be run down at all cost. Attempts to speak to Mr. Afriyie on the issue proved futile as his phone number known to The Enquirer was off.
