Merbank's Debts Irrecoverable????

President John Dramani Mahama yesterday, asked Merchant Bank to force Engineers and Planners (E&P) to settle their debt to the bank. He told journalists gathered at a press conference organized to mark the one year anniversary of his administration that whether E & P belonged to his brother or not, if you owe a bank you must pay. I want to urge Merchant bank and SSNIT to put in a taskforce to retrieve their debt because if we continue to run our banks like this, where are we going to get credit to give to the business community Let SSNIT and Merchant Bank take steps to recover their monies he said. However, Hon Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Minority Leader in Parliament sees his remarks as a charade. He does not understand why the President will be asking Merchant Bank to collect their money when it had already been sold to another company; Fortiz Private Equity. He said the bank should collect their money which in theory is goodbut I dont know the Merchant Bank he was talking about because legally merchant bank no longer existsand so how is Merchant bank which has been sold go and collect their money? he queried. Generalizing what the President said, the Minority leader said every question he (President) answered and everything he said was a repetition of what he said in 2013. He has therefore indicated that he will be analyzing everything President Mahama stated especially concerning his involvement in the sale of Merchant Bank to Fortiz. The President at the press meeting denied intervening on behalf of his brother, Ibrahim Mahama in the debt recovery matter between E&P and Merchant Bank even though he had been accused of conflict of interest. if I am convinced that what the president has stated is incorrect I will put it out and let the people of this country judge he indicated.
