MP for Yagba/Kubori donates to students

Mr Yussif Mustapha, New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Yagba/Kubori, has supported 150 tertiary students with 30,000 Ghana cedis. The MP has also donated 15,000 exercise books to primary, junior and senior high schools in the constituency. The donation, dubbed: "MP Sponsorship and Free Exercise Books Project," is aimed at bridging the educational gap between the people in the constituency and other parts of the country. Mr Mustapha said the students, who were natives of Yagba/Kubori, were selected from the various tertiary institutions across the country irrespective of their political and tribal affiliations. He said applications of the beneficiaries were carefully examined and cross-checked to ensure that applicants were natives and were ready to serve in the constituency upon completion of their courses. He said the students received Gh 200 while others got four exercise books each adding that the amount would be increased next year. "We will also increase the number of beneficiaries next year and will add the senior high students to the beneficiaries," he said. The MP also launched the Yagba/Kubori Educational Fund which would source funding from the MP's Common Fund and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) among others for material and infrastructural needs of schools in the constituency and the district. He said education was the bedrock of the development of every country and must be considered as the priority of every individual, group or organisation. Mr Mustapha said education in the constituency was nothing to write home about and that lack of infrastructure, teachers, and teaching and learning materials were the cause of the under-performance of the students. He appealed to Government and the Ministries of Education and Local Government and Rural Development to develop educational infrastructure in the Yagba District and release the Common Fund promptly to help the students. He thanked the chiefs, Imams, opinion leaders, the security services and the people of the area for their support and prayed for peace, unity, stability and God's blessing. Mr Abu Damba, a student of the University of Cape Coast (Distance Learning) and a beneficiary, thanked the MP for the support to the students and appealed to organisations and individuals to emulate the gesture.
