Government Cautions Teachers Against Absenteeism

Government has directed the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education to draw up a plan, which will strengthen the inspection regime in the country's schools to stop teacher absenteeism. Teacher absenteeism in Basic and second cycle schools is pegged at twenty percent, an affront to quality teaching and student formation. President John Dramani Mahama gave the directive at the 4th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference of the Ghana National Association of Teachers GNAT in Accra. He also called on the Pensions Regulatory Authority to with immediate effect convene a roundtable with organised labour to iron out lingering challenges regarding teacher's pension.
