Governments Action On GYEEDA Is Laughable And Unsatisfactory

Young patriots, a pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth group has pooh-poohed on governments decision to cancel contract of companies providing services under GYEEDA, describing it as laughable. Government on Tuesday cancelled the contracts of various service providers under Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA). The companies include Rlg Communication's training module, Asongtaba Cottage Industry & Exchange Programme (ACI&EP) and the Better Ghana Management Services Limited, a subsidiary of Jospong Group, the parent company of Zoomlion. The decision to cancel the contracts was reached following a series of meetings between government and the parties. Speaking to the issue, President of the Young Patriots, Richard Nyamah said on Citi eye witness news said the action by government was not satisfactory. According to him, it is laughable. There are several contradictions in the action that has been taken so far. He said it is not enough to just cancel the contracts because people were indicted in the report that was submitted by the P.V Obeng Committee; asking what action has been taken so far concerning them. The P.V. Obeng Committee was set to review the report of the Inter-Ministerial Committee that evaluated GYEEDA. Abuga Pele, Former National Coordinator of GYEEDA; Clement Humado, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Anlo constituency and some state officials were fingered in the report of the Inter-ministerial committee that investigated the alleged financial malfeasance uncovered at GYEEDA. In view of this, Richard says once the contract has been cancelled, those fingered must also be prosecuted. He said the only way he can be convinced that something is being done is when those indicted are taken to court and monies are retrieved. After the P.V Obeng committee concluded their work, there has not been any hearing as the President (Mahama) had previously indicated. This action presupposes that there is a contradiction in what the President said. People were specifically cited in the report and so where are those people because specific charges were leveled against them by the committee In any case GHC 1.2 billion has been sank into GYEEDA and simply cancelling the contract does not mean the money has been retrievedWe should see people being arrested in Rambo style like Woyome was, to retrieve the money. If I see some action then I can be rest assured that something is being done he intimated.
