National President of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) Samuel Ofori-Adjei says it is not �in the interest of anybody including heads of schools� to suspend the re-opening of 83 SHSs in three regions in the country. �It is not in the interest of any of us and I hope this is the last time we are discussing something like this�let us rather discuss issues which will bring us progress to the educational front� he said. Re-opening dates of 83 Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the three regions of northern Ghana: 44 in the Northern Region, 23 in the Upper East Region and 16 in the Upper West Region have been suspended; while final year students have partially re-opened due to government�s inability to pay their feeding grant. Mr. Ofori-Adjei said in an interview on Citi eye witness news that �we have statistics of 14 schools in the Upper West Region with indebtedness of 1.5m for the first term of last academic year� you can imagine the pressure on the heads if we continue to ask them to manage the situation. You go and buy food products on credit and you don�t pay - which businessman will continue like that? You have two children in the house; ten children and you are not able to feed them adequately, what will be their reactions? Much more these youngsters in their adolescent stages; it�s a terrible situation� Meanwhile, Mr. Samuel Ofori-Adjei has disclosed that per information available to him, the students are likely to be in school by Thursday, 16th January 2014 because efforts are being made by government to pay the debt owed.
