The National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Kwabena Adjei, has vowed not to distribute any largess as part of his re-election campaign. According to him, it is not his pedigree to be distributing bags of rice and cooking for his re-election bid. My competitors, can distribute rice and cooking oil, but it is not mine pedigree to be distributing goodies, because I know the history of this noble party The National Chairman, made this call when he interacted with members of the United Cadres Front (UCF), the promulgators of the 1979 revolution that ensured that Jerry John Rawlings became the leader and founder of the NDC at a press soiree in Accra. The meeting was attended by some NDC stalwarts, like the Deputy Minister of Manpower and Labour Relations, Mr Antwi Bosiako-Sekyere, Nii Notey �Dua, former Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports and former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ledzekuku Constitueency in the Greater Accra Region, Mr Piesie Antoh, a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, Mr Steven Akwetey, one of the contenders in the Greater Accra NDC chairmanship race, Dr David Persie and Afrail Monney, the President of Ghana Journalist Association(GJA) as a special Guest for the programme. The National Chairman minced no words when he said that he needs people with like mind to move this nation and the NDC forward, �I won�t join in the distribution of rice and cooking oil for call to serve the people and strengthen the party as a force to reckon with� He said, democracy has given way to conservatives to infiltrate the rank and file of the party, people who do not believe in the revolution are taking centre stage in the party and are perpetuating all manner of tactics, alien to the tenets of the revolution. He stressed that he would mobilize people with like minds to fight this creeping canker in the party. He mentioned that people who claim to be party grassroot members, have edged him out of the party with strange demands any time; he comes in contact with them. It is on this premise; he commended members of the cadre front for showing exemplary leadership in assisting the party to propagate its ideologies. He exclaimed that whether the conservatives in the party like it not ex-President Jerry Rawlings, remain the founder of the NDC and they cannot take that away from him. He said, he knew where the party came from because at the time of the June 4, 1979 coup, he was a lecturer on the University of Ghana campus and he saw how people struggled to have the revolution work. He noted that if people have forgotten, �me I have not forgotten and I quote it to them that the distribution of rice and cooking oil is not the pedigree of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)�. On his part, the General Secretary of the United Cadres Front (UCF), Felix Efanam Nayaku, otherwise known as �Ziggy� expressed worries about the dying railways sector and called on the Government to revamp the sector to create jobs for the teeming youth. He said the purpose of the media interaction was to rebrand the activities of the cadre front and make the group accountable to the party.
