Yamoah Ponkoh Rejects NDC Offer

The effort of the Ashanti regional branch of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to amicably settle the impasse between Yamoah Ponkoh, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejisu/Juaben and Kwame Shake, a staunch NDC member, has proved futile. Reports said the MCE rejected an out-of-court settlement proposed by the leadership of the party. Mr Kwame Shake, 60, and his son George Boateng, 25, were arraigned before court on charges of assault and conspiracy to commit crime recently after Mr Ponkoh made a report to the police. According to the MCE, the irate Kwame Shake, who stormed his office with his son to expressed frustration at the closure of his gas filling station, violently attacked him (Ponkoh.) However, Kwame Shake denied the assertion by Yamoah Ponkoh and asked the public to disregard him. He said Yamoah Ponkoh hurled insults at him when he visited his office to ascertain why the assemblys taskforce had locked up his gas station. Kwame Shake alleged that Yamoah Ponkoh, who became furious, pushed him down after which he slapped him several times. The matter had been adjourned to January 27 by the Juaben Circuit Court. The leadership of the party in the region, which is not pleased with the legal tussle involving the MCE and the partys member, opted for an out-of-court settlement. An influential NDC member in the region told DAILY GUIDE that Yamoah Ponkoh flatly rejected the partys proposal and settled for the resolution of the matter in court to reveal the truth to the world. Even before we could land with our offer for out-of-court settlement between the two gentlemen, Yamoah Ponkoh said a big no, the source said. The MCE is reported to have said that he would ensure that the gas operator was dealt with according to the law for allegedly slapping him.
