NPP Cancels Constituency Election

Ashanti regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cancelled the constituency elections held by district executives in Ejisu-Juabeng to elect new executives. Ashanti regional Chairman of the party, F.F Anto in an interview with Citi News said the elections were not conducted properly. some people were disenfranchised; during the distribution of forms, about 80 people came out to question seriously that they have not been given forms; they had forms from one John Kuma[An executive member in the constituency] and when they had the forms, the executives refused to collect the forms So these people went to court to place an injunction on the elections. According to Mr. Anto, the Member of Parliament went ahead to conduct polling stations elections without vetting the people and without any notice. My position is simple; we dont want to disenfranchise anybody in the Ashanti region, everybody should be given forms; we can extend the date for the re-issue of forms, he added. Mr. Anto said the position of the party is that nobody should be disenfranchised without any reason. Lets open the thing again and allow everybody to contest; the process has not even gone far, this is just the initial stages, he insisted. But Some NPP supporters in the constituency disagree with the move by the party and have demonstrated to register their displeasure at what they say is the arbitrary cancellation of their polling station elections by the General Secretary of the Party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie and the regional Chairman of the party. Mr Owusu Afriyie is reported to have announced on Kumasi based Kessben FM, that the polling station elections held in Ejisu-Juabeng constituency last year to elect executives for the 2016 elections had been cancelled due to lack of transparency. An action the supporters say breaches the partys laws.
